Dr. Jeffrey Wilken

Dr. Wilken has been a partner at the Neuropsychology Associates of Fairfax (NAF) since 2006.  He is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Georgetown University Medical Center and the Director of the Washington Neuropsychology Research Group.  Dr. Wilken received his B.S. from Cornell University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park.  He completed pre-doctoral training at the NIH, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, and the VA Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.   

He completed post-doctoral training at Georgetown University Medical Center.  Prior to coming to NAF, Dr. Wilken was the director of the neuropsychology program at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for 8 years.  At NAF, Dr. Wilken provides neuropsychological evaluations to assist with differential diagnosis and functional analysis for a wide range of neurocognitive conditions across the lifespan.  This includes (but is not limited to) dementia, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, MS (and other demyelinating conditions), infectious disease, cerebrovascular illness, psycho-educational and learning disability evaluation, and psychiatric causes of cognitive decline.  In addition to his clinical work , Dr. Wilken is involved in numerous research projects designed to study neurocognitive correlates of brain disease/injury. He is the primary investigator in charge of multi-center, funded studies looking at the cognitive sequelae of multiple sclerosis (MS) and dementia, the utility of computerized assessment, potential sedative effects of medications, and the efficacy of combination therapy in the treatment of cognitive decline.  He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal publications and published abstracts.  His research has been presented at national and international scientific conferences, including: American Neurological Association, American Academy of Neurology, and the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.   Dr. Wilken is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, National Academy of Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, and American Psychological Association.  He is a reviewer for a number of scientific journals.
